Ramsey to GOP Foes: ‘Don’t Make Me Come Back There!’
Ron Ramsey is not amused by the name calling and bickering in the Republican U.S. Senate primary. The Nashville Post reported yesterday that the state Senate majority leader “wants his party’s candidates to replace outgoing U. S. Sen. Bill Frist to ease their verbal war with one another in their primary campaigns.” Ramsey’s rebuke came after the latest volley of slings tossed around by the contestants.
The newest flurry began with former Congressman Ed Bryant calling former Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker a “political fraud” and accusing him of running a “deceitful” campaign. Bryant also announced the launch of a new web site, BobtheFraud.com. Former Congressman Van Hilleary, the front runner according to a recent Nashville City Paper/WWTN poll, chimed in with “Yeah, what he said.” Corker replied with “No one cares what you guys think because you’re irrelevant. So there!”
“I know that each candidate wants to win, but the rhetoric is a bit strong,” Daddy Ron told the Post. He went on to predict a further eroding of civility and a continued reduction of substantive debate in the race. He concluded by asking the children to play nice.
A short list of barbs thrown at each other by the candidates or their representatives includes “double talker,” “clueless,” “delusional,” “immature,” “deceptive,” “tacky,” “self-congratulatory” — and one that many voters might believe fits the entire slate, “not a serious adult.”
