Fancy Frist Finds Way to Avoid Gas Pump Crunch
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has found a way to avoid paying the skyrocketing gas prices that are putting the pinch on Americans from coast to coast. How? He travels in private jets and limousines. Financial disclosures for Volunteer PAC, the political action committee run by Frist, show expenditures of $39,723 on private jets and $13,692 on limousines in 2005. “Combined with his refusal to take substantive action to reign in gas prices, this shows that Frist has completely lost touch with everyday Tennesseans,” Tennessee Democratic Party Chairman Bob Tuke said. “This is especially disturbing given the appearance that Big Oil owns the Republican Party lock, stock, and barrel.”
Tuke noted the fact that oil and gas interests have contributed $6 million to Republican candidates and organizations this election cycle. Since 1990, Big Oil has given over $140 million to the GOP. “Then we find that Frist travels in expensive jets and limos. He doesn’t even pay for gas,” Tuke said. “How is he supposed to understand how it feels for average Tennesseans to pay three dollars for a gallon of gas?”
