Bredesen Poll Numbers Rising Steadily

Governor Phil Bredesen’s job approval rating climbed steeply over the past four months as Tennessee voters voiced increasing support for his handling of key issues ranging from TennCare to ethics. According to the most recent Survey USA poll released December 20, Bredesen enjoys a 57% approval rating. The Governor’s job approval in Survey USA’s automated poll has climbed 11 points since August, when Republicans began attacking Bredesen on a variety of issues. Meanwhile, in other scientific polls conducted by Democratic campaigns, the Governor’s current job approval rating exceeds 60%.

“Whatever the poll, it’s clear that a convincing majority of Tennesseans approve of Governor Bredesen’s handling of critical issues,” said Bob Tuke, chairman of the Tennessee Democratic Party. “They appreciate his honesty and candid approach to governing. And they’re disgusted by the negative campaign tactics of his opposition.”

Tuke added: “My good friends at the Tennessee Republican Party have spent months crowing about their plans to put forth a credible candidate to run against the Governor. Yet 322 days out from the general election, there still is no confirmed opposition. The reason is clear: They know from talking to voters that voters understand Governor Bredesen is moving Tennessee forward in a positive direction.”
